Brass and Organ Recital at York Minster

Prime Brass are delighted to be joining Ben Morris, Assistant Director of Music at York Minster on Friday 23 February for a Brass and Organ Spectacular under the baton of Steven Grahl, Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral.The concert starts with the wonderful Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss which was also the accompaniment to the 1968 epic science-fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey, produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The opening is followed by the splendid Old Hundredth by Naji Hakim and the Andante for Horn and Organ by Saint- Saens. We then turn to Salvum Fac Populum Tuum by the eminent French organist and composer Widor who penned this masterful work for Brass, Organ, and Percussion in 1917 for an Armistice service at Notre Dame Cathedral.Ben Morris and Prime Brass will also each be performing a solo item before concluding the concert with the wonderful Night on a Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky (arr. Rimsky Korsakov) and the spectacular Organ Symphony by Saint-Saens arranged for brass and organ.
